When traveling through Europe, just about everyone uses the Eurail system. There is nothing better than traveling through Europe by Eurail. Traveling by train instead of a plane is something that seems so strange to most of us Americans. Part of the reason is that our rail system is not equipped for that type of travel. However, what we are used to is purchasing a plane ticket in order to travel. One of the differences between a plane ticket and a Eurail ticket is that purchasing a rail ticket does not guarantee you a seat. Making your Eurail reservations is a necessity to ensure that you have a seat on a particular train. However, if you are not particularly in a hurry to reach your destination than having to reserve a seat, may not be a necessity for you.

When you are purchasing your Eurail tickets, the cost does not always include your Eurail reservations. The cost for purchasing a reservation is not terribly expensive. Reservation cost usually ranges between 5 to 35 dollars. This is not an extremely expensive price if you want to guarantee you have a seat. However, for those that travel frequently this cost could add up. Keep in mind that Eurail reservations are required on virtually all European high speed trains. If you purchase a Eurail pass, you will still need to make a reservation for these high speed trains.

Eurail reservations are ideal for peak season, especially, if you intend on traveling in large groups. Peak traveling months are May, June, July and August. Basically, this is during the high tourist traveling season. If you are traveling during this time, I would recommend that you make a reservation before you leave on your vacation. There are several Websites that post train schedules online. These same Websites will also enable you to reserve your seat, by using their timetables you will know precisely when the train is pulling out of the station.

Traveling through Europe by Eurail has always been a fantastic way to see the countryside. The views have always been considered breathtaking, and will provide some of the greatest memories a person will have. Traveling by Eurail is also one of the greenest ways to travel. Believe it or not the train emits less harmful carbon emissions and energy, than flying. The train only emits a tiny fraction of the nasty stuff.
